As powerful as Mother Nature is, she has feelings too. It was Valentine's Day and Mother Nature was in a good mood. She made the sun a little brighter, the sky a little clearer, the winds calm, and the oceans as blue as ever. As Mother Nature began to look down at her world, she felt a little sad and lonely. She knew it was Valentine's Day and that it was a holiday to celebrate love.
She thought to herself, "There are so many people in love and have someone to love, but who will be my Valentine?..."
She began to cry and when Mother Nature cries, the whole world knows. Tears rolled down her face into oceans, creating giant tsunami waves. The sky turned dark, the clouds rumbled, and the winds roared. The world experienced a storm like no other, mother Nature had thrown the temper tantrum of all tantrums.
While all this was occurring there was an intelligent and wise man named Noah. Noah was very intuitive and had a gut feeling something big was going to happen. Noah enjoyed building and construction work. So, in his spare time he would build whatever he could think of. His next big project was to build an ark. Not just any ark, but an ark that could fit men, women, children, and animals. People thought he was out of his mind and a little messed up in the head, despite all the judgment and criticism he stuck to his gut feeling to finishing this project.
Noah was enjoying his Valentine's Day as a single man. He spent is day watering his garden, watching The Notebook, eating a whole box of chocolates, and putting the finishing touches on his ark. When all of a sudden, the sky turned dark and a storm came like no other. Noah looked at his ark, then looked up to the sky and he knew something was wrong.
Many people had heard the stories of Mother Nature, but never thought twice to think if she was real, much less have feelings. However, Noah believed in Mother Nature and that she truly did control the sun and the sky.
So he called out to her, "Mother Nature, Mother Nature why are the winds roaring and the skies so dark?"
Mother Nature rarely had anyone reach out to her. She looked down at the little man with the ark and replied, "I have a broken heart and I am all alone!"
Noah replied, "But, Mother Nature you are not alone! Look at all your creations! I'll be your friend!" Mother Nature looked around and realized that the little man she just met was right. All of a sudden, Mother Nature's tears dried up and the skies cleared and the sun was bright. She was not alone and spent Valentine's day with a new friend.

Madee,
ReplyDeleteWow, what an interesting take on this story! I am familiar with the story of Noah's Ark, but I had never heard of the story of The Giant and The Flood. I thought it was really interesting to imagine the flood as a result of mother nature's loneliness, and I love that she and Noah were able to come to a peaceful resolution. One thing I was unclear on- why did Noah build the ark if the flood never came? I really enjoyed your story!

Hi Madee,
ReplyDeleteI wish you would have given more details in the author's note about how you changed it. I love this take on it, especially with Valentine's day. Aw. Poor Mother Nature. I like how her emotions greatly affected the world with the great tsunamis. It is always nice to make the characters more "earthly" because I feel like they are more relatable this way. Can't wait to read more!
Hi Madee,
ReplyDeleteFirst off love this blended take on a story as old as time. Many cultures have different versions of Noah and the Arc and mother nature stories but this blend was truly enjoyable. I really liked the fact that Noah was watching The Notebook. I also loved the fact that you made it even more relevant by making the central theme valentines day.
Hey Madee! What an interesting story! I like how you brought the earth to life and gave it feelings, that's certainly unique. It helps set your story out from the rest. Also I love how Noah ate an entire box of chocolates, that is so funny! I also like how in the end Noah reaches out to mother nature and they become friends.
ReplyDeleteHey Madee! I really enjoyed reading your story! It was really interesting to me and I was entrenched throughout! Your descriptions were vivid, and your characterization of earth was unique and done well! I really enjoyed the blending of the Noah and the Ark and mother nature stories, and it was also a funny story, which I appreciated. Great work!
ReplyDeleteHey again Madee!
ReplyDeleteThis is some great writing. It is a pretty original take on a story that some of us are familiar with. I was worried from the title that the story would be pretty sad, I was glad to see that it wasn't TOO teary. However, it made me want to know more about ow Mother Nature got to this point. Maybe a follow-up story of the aftermath or origin of this? That would be great!
Hi Madee,
ReplyDeleteI liked the way you changed this story to include Mother Nature and her perspective. It was a really creative swap. There were a couple of funny spots too which kept the tone light-hearted. I wonder what a friendship between Mother Nature and Noah and would look like? Also, did Noah ever get to use his ark? Or was he crazy like everyone thought? Great job overall!
Hey Madee,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a wonderful job in writing this story. You are great at engaging the interest of your reader. I was entertained throughout. Based on the comments, I can see others were as well. I do wish the author’s note contained a bit more detail. Other than that, this was an exceptional story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Madee,
ReplyDeleteI thought this story was such an interesting take on a familiar tale. I like that you incorporated Mother Nature as a person who has feelings and just wants to be seen and appreciated. I also like that you had Noah offer to be Mother Nature's friend on Valentine's day instead of simply a romantic relationship. I do wish you had given more information in your Author's Note about how you were inspired by the original story.
